21 February 2001 The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) has concluded its investigation into allegations of police complicity in acts of criminality made by Mr Deon Mostert. During our investigation we cataloqued and analysed 27 separate allegations made by Mr Mostert implicating members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in various criminal activities. Very few of Mr Mosterts allegations have been substantiated whilst a number of them were unsubstantiated and exposed Mr. Mostert as a patent liar. The only SAPS member who was implicated in Mr. Mosters allegations is already being charged with being in unlawful possession of a bullet proof vest and will appear in court on Wednesday, 7 March 2001. The suspect will appear on the same day on further charges ranging from theft to conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearms . A general examination of the allegations made by Mr. Mostert has revealed that he has a great propensity to lie and therefore sent us on a wild goose chase with regard to many of his allegations. This concludes the ICDs involvement in this matter. The ICD cannot afford to spend its limited resources investigation frivolous allegations Contact Person |
