17 December 2001 The ICD has arrested a police officer in Heidedal in the Free State Province on Thursday, 13 December 2001 for killing Jabulani Tshabalala. The incident occurred In Heidedal police station on 28 April 2001 it is alleged that the suspect police officer arrested a suspect after police were alerted by the members of the community that the suspect was seen at the local tavern. It is alleged that during the arrest two gentlemen believed to be friends to the arrested suspect intervened with police duties and they were also arrested. At the police station the suspect police started shooting at Tshabalala after it was alleged that he attempted to stab the police with a knife. The service firearm of the suspect police Inspector was used to kill the deceased. The ICD took charge of the investigation. Our investigation revealed that the said knife was only brought to the scene after the shooting. The DPP decided that the suspect police be arrested and the arrest was executed by the ICD. The said officer was arrested and appeared briefly in the Boemfontein Magistrates Court on Thursday, 13 December 2001 and he applied for and was granted R 1000 bail.
