The Executive Director of the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD), Adv Karen McKenzie, will be participating in a workshop to draft a plan of action for the prevention of torture in Africa, on 12-14 February 2002, at the BMW Pavilion, V&A, Waterfront Cape Town.

The workshop is hosted by the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), based in Switzerland and the African Human Rights Commission.

Adv McKenzie will be presenting a paper on control mechanisms to prevent torture on the morning of 13 February 2002- the paper will focus on the prevention of police torture.

Adv McKenzie has been chosen as a member of the South African observer mission to Zimbabwe. She departs for Zimbabwe on Sunday, 03 March 2002.
