18 January 2002 The Independent Complaints Directorate wishes to inform that it is still involved in an investigation into circumstances surrounding an alleged assault of Colleen Chauke and Dudu Nkosi in February 1999. It must be mentioned that since we started with our investigation into the said incident there was a lack of cooperation by the suspect police officers. It has been difficult to interview the suspect police officers who belong to SAPS Special Investigation Unit - Pretoria. Furthermore we made recommendations to the SAPS management for departmental action against the suspect police officers. We have not as yet been advised by SAPS management regarding compliance with our recommendation. Our
investigation into the matter continues and it will be completed in due course.
After completion we will forward the case docket to the Director of Public Prosecutions
(DPP) for a decision on prosecution. Steve
