05 February 2002 The Executive Director of the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD), Adv Karen McKenzie, will be making a surprise visit to the Harding police station in KwaZulu Natal on Wednesday, 06 February 2002, after receiving a written complaint from a member of the Harding community. Adv. McKenzie will proceed to meet with the Harding community immediately after her visit at the said station. The purpose of the visit is to investigate allegations of bad policing reported by the community in the said area. Among complaints received from the Harding community are complaints relating to service delivery and there are allegations that the Station Commissioner is seldom present at the station, since he is involved in the taxi industry. It also alleged that police misuse state vehicles by using them for private purposes. There are also allegations that police vehicles are always parked outside their girlfriends houses. It is alleged that police are reluctant to attend to complaints from members of the community. It is also alleged that instead of attending to complaints from members of the community, police watch television at the police station. The Executive Director will lead the ICD delegation. Date:
