12 November 2002 The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) wishes to make known the outcome of a disciplinary investigation against the ICD Western Cape provincial head, Mr Riaz Saloojee. The ICD received allegations of misconduct against Saloojee, from some staff members in the aforesaid office. The investigation revealed that there is no one person to blame for the situation in the office, since problems and disagreements were not resolved amicably when they occurred but were instead left to fester and as such resulted in looming tensions between staff members and the provincial head. The investigating officer thus recommended that no disciplinary action be instituted against Mr Saloojee. The final recommendation was that the entire staff complement, including Saloojee, be subjected to intensive team-building interventions, and that Saloojee be subjected to management development. The Executive Director of the ICD, Adv Karen McKenzie said: "We have followed the proper procedures by subjecting the allegations to investigative scrutiny in terms of the Public Service Regulations and prescripts, we are implementing the recommendations and the work of the ICD in the Western Cape must now continue with vigour, dedication and commitment".
