ICD INVESTIGATING A CASE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER AGAINST A STUDENT CONSTABLE: Paballelo - CAS 147/01/2012

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) is investigating a case of attempted murder against a 22 year old student constable. The suspect member is attached to Augrabies police station in the Northern Cape. His identity is known to the ICD but can not be released until he appears in court.

It is alleged that in the early hours of 18 January 2012, the student constable found his girlfriend in the company of another male person with whom he suspected she was having a relationship. He apparently fired a shot towards her direction but missed. Neither she nor the other male sustained any injuries.

The police arrived at the scene and arrested the student constable. Following notification by the police, the ICD investigator visited the scene and took over the investigation from the police. The suspect policeman was charged with attempted murder. He will appear in Upington Magistrates Court tomorrow, 20 January 2012 for a bail application. The investigation is still on-going.
