SAPS WARRANT OFFICER SENTENCED
TO 10-YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER

A 43-year-old Warrant Officer, Motlalepule
Amos Motaung who was based at Phuthaditjhaba
SAPS has been convicted and sentenced for the
murder of his 36-year-old mistress on 01/02/2010.
The incident took place at the policeman’s home in
Clubview, Phuthaditjhaba. The Independent Complaints
Directorate (ICD) investigated a case of murder against
the suspect.
It is alleged that on the date of the incident, the
suspect’s child arrived home from school and saw a
foot protruding under the bed. She then contacted her
mother who, upon arrival, found the deceased already
dead. The deceased’s face was covered with a plastic
bag. Police were called and the suspect, Warrant Officer
Motaung was arrested.
The suspect officer appeared at the Makwane Magistrates
on 03/02/2010 where he was denied bail. He was granted
bail after four months when new information emerged. The
case was later transferred to the Harrismith High Court
where the accused, Motaung was convicted of murder and
sentenced to an effective 10 years imprisonment with no
option of a fine.
